The Empire State Building

The Empire State Building is the fouteenth tallest building in the world and currently the tallest building in the state of New York.  It stands a proud 1,250 feet--1,454 if you count the antenna,  jutting above the famous Manhattan skyline.

It was built in 1931 and was at that time the tallest building in the world, a title which it held for forty years until the construction of the World Trade Centers in New York City. After the twin towers were destroyed in 2001, it again became the tallest building in New York.

The building is still used as offices from floors 1 to 85.  The 86th floor and up has been converted into obvservation decks for tourists.
