Source Code

Source Code is the second film by the up and coming director Duncan Jones. Much like his first film, Moon, Source Code is an intelligent sci-fi that doesn't fall victim to the standard and predictable ways of telling a story.

The story follows Colter Stevens, (Jake Gyllenhaal) a soldier who wakes up in the body of a man unknown to him on a commuter train heading to Chicago. Eventually he finds out that he has been placed there to try and thwart a bomb attempt in the city.

Source Code is an exceptional example of a sci-fi movie done right. It is an engaging story that keeps the viewer interested throughout and leaves the audience thinking about the ideas brought up in the film. This story is carried well by the star Jake Gyllenhaal who faces the emotional battles that present his character very well in the film.

Source Code is not as in depth as Jones' first film Moon was. But what it lacked in character study it made up in with its ability to engage the audience. Source Code jumps right into the action and doesn't let up at all. And with all this action Source Code will be able to draw in a lot more viewers who would not normally be interested in an intelligent sci-fi. With this mix between clever story and fast paced action Duncan Jones manages to make a movie that is getting both critical acclaim and a high rank at the box office. It is always good to see a well made movie actually make an impact at the box office.

With this addition to Duncan Jones resume he should start to be taken as one of the greats in the sci-fi genre. He has proven himself to be very effective at telling a story and I know that personally I am going to be waiting anxiously for his next film.
